Who's running to face Susan Collins?

Maine Democrats are selecting a new Senate nominee through a first-of-its-kind party convention. Here's who's in the running and where they stand, issue by issue.

How the replacement gets picked

Maine has never done this before at this scale — here's what's actually been decided so far.

A first-of-its-kind nominating convention

The Maine Democratic Party's state committee voted to hold a nominating convention to select a new U.S. Senate nominee, rather than have party leaders simply appoint one. This is the first time Maine Democrats have used a convention of this scale to replace a statewide nominee.

500delegates elected proportionally by county committees
~100+additional votes from the party's full state committee
~600total people expected to select the nominee

Party leadership — Chair Charlie Dingman, Vice Chair Imke Schessler, and Executive Director Devon Murphy-Anderson — has said it will release a full timeline, candidate requirements, and details on how the public can participate, promising "transparency is of the utmost importance" throughout the process. Maine law requires a replacement nominee to be certified by July 27, 2026.
